This cross-platform solution is targeted towards environments where customers are using multiple devices, for example initiating an order in the mobile version on their Android or iOS device but finishing the actual purchase on their desktop computer using a web browser.

The feature is currently available upon request, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re interested or have any questions.

Prerequisites

  • Creating A combined website and mobile project in Smartlook

  • Implementing Smartlook SDK for relevant platforms

  • Implementing identify method for both web and mobile app

Implementation steps

1. Once you have signed up for Smartlook, you can create a new Combined website and mobile project.

2. Please see our installation article (website) and documentation (mobile apps) for instructions on how to implement Smartlook.

A combined website and mobile project allows you to use the same project key/SDK key in any of the Smartlook SDK versions and therefore collect data from all the platforms under a single project.

NOTE: Tracking script and project key can be located in the project settings in your Smartlook account’s organization settings.

3. In order for Smartlook to understand the connection when a user is active on multiple devices, Smartlook platform relies on identify method call that is available in all the Smartlook SDK versions.

For implementation on a website, the simplest example would be:

<script>
smartlook('identify', user_id);
</script>

Please see our Identify visitors in Smartlook article for additional details on implementation and settings.

For mobile, implementing identification varies according to the selected platform/framework. For example, for an iOS app, the identification would be as follows:

class func setUserIdentifier(_ userIdentifier: String?)

Check out our user-related documentation and user identification API reference guide for more information.

TIP: Switch between frameworks in documentation via the dropdown menu located in the top right corner.

Remember to use the same user ID for both web and mobile apps. Once implemented, Smartlook’s platform will begin grouping sessions based on user identification, regardless of the platform.

By doing so, each user profile will contain a perfect representation of their journey, allowing you to observe their behavior in a single data set.
